I am worried that I won't have enough time.

Does anybody know the procedure when flying in from another country to Newark Terminal C, then transfering to fly internaly (to Ft. Lauderdale in my case).

Will we have to lug our cases through more security X-ray checks?

How far apart are the international arrival and the national departure gates?

There is 1hr 35mins between the two filghts - is that going to be tight?

it really depends on the lines in customs. if you breeze through coming in, you should make if fine if you don't spend alot of time browsing.  i came in to Newark international this last august (C) from Ireland and had to catch a domestic flight home to California, and we missed it since our flight was late coming in and we had to go through customs. We had a half hour to get to our plane and we didn't make it cuz of the lines getting out and into the different terminals for security.   even skipping custom-it's a 15 minute walk to the domestic terminal and gates from C
.  you will have to go through customs when coming in....but going back it won't be bad till you get back to your first landing on foriegn soil.  you will still have to go through security check points, claims, etc.  the way back may be better?

is it posible to order the phone there in the aiport, and have it shipped to your home address?  that way you can order it when you have the most time between flights-coming or going.  or if you get lucky, and your flights delayed so you have time shopping...

there is also to option of just going on line in to Palm when you get into the US and order-then have it shipped to your home address.  if your lucky, it should be waiting for you!

oh-just a side note-if you do get stuck in Newark cuz of missed flights-there is a silver lining.  we didn't get a new flight till the next day.  the airline that made you miss the connecting flight will give you a voucher for a hotel and it's only a 1/2 hour train ride to New York City.  We had a second vacation in one night going up and down the subway from time square to the stanton island ferry (statue of liberty, empire state building, etc-we managed it all!)
FYI-the last train back to Newark and your hotel shuttle leaves at 2:00 am from the main terminal new york subway station(we alsmost missed it!) Grin

Alli,

Thanks for the help. Nice to know she will be able to see all 4 colours and chose her favourite!

Kita,

Palm don't allow you to buy in the US and have it shipped to the UK - they want you to buy from Palm UK - at the UK inflated prices.

Thanks for the help.  As I understand it then, even though we fly in and out with the same airline, we have to claim our baggage, go through customs, then check our bags back in for the connecting flight?  I have never had a connecting flight in the US. I am sure that in other countries you don't see your bags, the airline does it for you and you go through customs at the final destination.

to tell the truth-i've always had to get a connecting flight-but you do go through customs then have to wait for by the carousels while the luggage goes thru customs, then go to your next flight terminal and drop off the luggage again.  i'm pretty sure this is the procedure.  someone here will correct me if i'm wrong i'm sure!  Wink
how about on line while here?
another option is having it delivered to a friend in the states and have them send to you....

I've had the same experience as kita when connected to a domestic flight (in the US) after getting off an international one. Pain in the butt, unless your domestic carrier is the same as the int'l carrier, in which case they sometimes check the bag back for you when you've carried it through customs...leaving you free to shop.
