I doubt the batteries will work. Look at the front page article about the 680, the battery is much thinner than those in the 650/700

The 650 battery will definitely not fit in the 680...it is twice as thick, so there is just no way the battery cover can be put back on.

And just to see if it was possible to do it if you were willing to leave the battery cover off, I tried sticking the battery from my 700p in the 680. It just barely doesn't fit inside the battery compartment. I'm not sure if it is because the 650/700p battery is just slightly larger or if it is because the 680 battery has a rounded edge opposite the terminals that allow it to slide into the 680's battery compartment (it is a very tight fit).

Since the 650/700 and 680 batteries are both rated at 3.7V I decided to throw caution to the wind and try pushing a little harder on the thicker battery from my 650 so it would slide into the 680 battery compartment.

Yes, with some extra pressure it will fit inside the compartment. It doesn't fit very well (pretty tight), and it sticks out preventing the battery cover from being used. But the phone did start up and seems to be working fine. But it does seem feasible if you really want to do it.

Of course I'm sure you'll be out of luck getting repairs if you have any problems since it isn't the correct battery for the device.
