I finally managed to upgrade the screen yesterday, first take-apart.

All went well, and wanted to sync the unit after. No luch, so I found the "great" idea of licking the connectors. Yes, licking.

Bad idea

Now my phone has developed a strange issue: partial mute.

The sound is ON, the ring tones and alarms work, so I CAN use it as a phone.
The PALM part does NOT work, meaning no key clicks, no MP3 playback, no voices from TomTom, in general no system sound at all.

Obviously the speaker itself is not broken. I also doubt that it should be the infamous jack connector for headphones, since sound DOES come out from the phone.

Strangely, another (unrelated ??) issue is that when I open the Camera program, the hotsync function starts.

I did do a hard reset, with a complete format of the unit.

Any clues would be very helpful !!

umm you licked the unit? well i guess it could dry out over a number of days but. . . . I think your clue is that you LICKED the unit

(sorry don't mean to sound mean. . . but you licked a piece of electronics and then sent electricity through the part that you got wet so . . . umm you probably caused quite a few shorts)

Sounds like you need to clean out the bottom of the device, including the headset jack...

Just tried with a 2,5" headset found. All missing sound is there, so probably the age-old issue of the missing connection in the jack. Puzzling though that SOME sounds come out fine, others not.

And really puzzling about the camera->hotsync.

If it's trying to HotSync, check the connectors first. Dirty connectors can often trigger a HotSync.

I'm still thinking you fried the speaker (If I remember palms have seperate speakers for ringtones and music or was that just the 700 and up  )

As far as I know (having taken apart quite a few), they only have one...
