My corporate email solution is Exchange 2000.  IMAP is enabled and functioning as far as can be told.  We have an SMTP gateway for inbound mail that one must connect to for IMAP.  My question(s) are very basic.

When setting up the Generic IMAP server, I point to the SMTP gateway (this is the way others have connected).
The login name that I enter is my email address xxx@yyy.zzz.
The "Complete Server Folder Name" by default says "Inbox"
When I try to sync it says at the bottom right of the screen "Connect..." then says "Login..." but never gets my mail.

So I tried the following settings:
The login name that I enter is my corp domain name\username; xxx\yyy.
The "Complete Server Folder Name" by default says "Inbox"
When I try to sync it says at the bottom right of the screen "Connect..." then says "Login..." but never gets my mail.

Are the above settings just incorrect?
Does Chatter support IMAP4 (Exchange 2000)?
What other options should I try?

Your help is appreciated.  So far Chatter completely rocks!

does exchange support IMAP4 should be the question Wink

i dont think you should connect to the smtp-gateway, as this is for sending mails...
try to connect to the exchange directly.
'Inbox' should be fine for exchange.

cheers

I've never heard of connecting via SMTP address; can you send me a log showing a failed connection attempt?  Instructions are in the FAQ at www.chatteremail.com.

Yeah.  After some investigation using the "nav gateway" will not work.  IMAP has been historically used for users thta have devices that connect internally.  I am trying to determine if IMAP is configured work for external clients.

As for the log, how can I view it myself (I read the FAQ's, configured logging and know how to get it from me to you)?

Ok. So the word is I cannot IMAP mail externally.
I read that I could create an Exchange rule and have the mail forwarded to another IMAP server.  So, now my question is, if I have my mail forwarded, when I reply, the reply address would be from my external IMAP account. True or False?

depends...
you can setup a reply address and send via the matching-smtp-address.
i.e. your email would be 'somename@foobar.org' and the login to the smtp(of the imap) would be 'someothername@barfoo.org'.
if in doubt, set a 'replyto:somename@foobar.org' and send as 'someothername@barfoo.org'.
so u use the matching smtp/imap-address as sender, but in your mail-header is a replyto:-address-should work fine.

for the auth-process the login to the smtp/imap server is important. some smtp do a sender verification (i.e. when using a diff. email as the one you are logged in you will get a '550: not logged in as owner')-so you have to try out or play safe(using replyto: ).

cheers

After reading the chatteremail forum, I was able to get IMAP to work pointing to my OWA server; sending and receiving. (http://www.chatteremail.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=71&page=viewtopic&t=2275)  I cannot however see any other folders than the inbox.  I can, however, choose "move to folder..." and see the other folders.  Is there a way to view them from a drop-down menu or something?  Anyway, IMAP was what I needed to dump Sprint's Business Connect software.  Thanks! So far the help has been wonderful.

You need to use "New Mailbox" for each mailbox you want mirrored on the Treo.
