« on: 28 November 2005, 08:11:07 »

Hi there,

I just got a Globalsat BT-355 GPS receiver for my Tomtom'd Treo 650 (it works amazingly well by the way!!!).... but the screen goes down after the predetermined time period set in 'prefs'. Anyone have ideas on how to stop or bypass this?

Thanks!

Having asked the TomTom support came up with this cryptic message:

"Please disable this function by
Going to memo > open it >tap on new >Type in the palm shortcut then a dot thena 3 and it will disable your auto-off function.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team"

What does this mean?

Just had an updated reply. Not tried it yet though...

"Navigator 5 obeys the automatic power down sequence of your Palm, which means that after 3 minutes (maximum), the Palm will simply switch off. As you mentioned, the Treo does not have the option to switch to a stylus-based input system, which indeed renders our earlier response useless.

Unfortunately, the Palm Treo's method of accessing the Palm shortcuts is very counter-intuitive. Please do the following:

- Access the Palm Memo application

- Choose/Tap on New

- Type in an S, then press and hold the [Alt] button on the external Treo keyboard. A popdown menu will appear with a display of shortcut characters. Choose the bottommost character (a squiggle, it's incredibly difficult to describe).

- After the Palm shortcut is inputted, type in: .3

That will activate the [No Auto-Off] override feature for your Treo. If our explanation is still not completely clear, please contact the Palm helpdesk and ask them how to disable the Auto-Off feature for the Treo 650."

Cross fingers and hope fpr the best, ehh.

I had the same problem after updating to version 5.12 for Palm OS, after reinstalling the original version 5.00 (only the file start.prc) the screen does not turn off anymore.

Smiley Been using AlwaysOn for a couple of years. It's great. BUT...you do have to set it again after any resets.

that's odd, it works fine for me, i don't have to manually set it again

check in options

maybe you have an older version???  Huh?

Also make sure AlwaysON is in RAM and not in your SD card

that might be why Wink

Well......I decided to re-download v1.2 in case there was something I missed. Deleted it from my 650, re-installed it, looked for options,[only thing is a note from the developer], set for 10 mins, soft reset it, checked the program...it was back at the default 3 mins. [And it was in ram so that's not it.] It doesn't appear to hold whatever preset you choose beyond the 3 mins. Too bad.

hmm... the only time i see that problem before is caused by another software that was reverting the settings, forgot the name now

but check for other software that might do the same thing in your treo, or see if you have any application that maintains your settings  yes

AllGamer. Would you do a soft reset now and see if the program maintains your preset time? Say....10 mins, if you wouldn't mind? I just want to make sure I'm not Karazy. I get pretty anal about how my unit runs. Smiley

yep it does

there is another software you can use

try the Matrix Screen Saver

but not for the screen Saver itself but more the software that comes with it that manages the screen saver and the On/Off thing

it's better than AlwaysOn
