so after transferring a few pictures, mpegs, etc to my SD card... i discovered that the files got corrupted! Any ideas on why this is happenning?! Is it the Treo? Is it the SD card? Also noticed that my Treo takes a while to start up when I've taken the SD card out and popped it back in - things are "frozen" for a while and I just have to be patient before I can get a fully functioning "phone" back. Starting to think I could do with a phone without all the bells and whistles!

I used to get corrupted files by using a card reader. When using a card reader you have either FAT or FAT32 to format with; the Treo formats using VFS. So, it's bound to get corrupted, which was happening before I started using the Palm File Browser (PFB). This program is the best for transferring files to and from the SD card...all while the card is still in the Treo. Look in the downloads.

thanks for the tip! Question is... I just moved files to the card by transferring within the Treo itself ... and then whatever i moved has become corrupted over time. I haven't even attempted to move things onto the SD card from my Pc. so, is this just a software issue? another problem - i'm using mac os!

I'm using a card reader all the time without problems. Transferring pictures, apps and movies. But I've had to get two SD Cards replaced because they started to get errors - one was brand new. So I'd say you got a bad SD Card.

I use a card reader as well without issue. Don't use the computer to format the card, typically leave it as is, if you have to format, use the treo to do it.
I have a 512mb card and a 2gb card, I've had to replace both of them once. Usually it's just my luck, most electronics I own have to be replaced, but it also shows that a couple bad apples are bound to crop up.
Anyway, the first card would be fine except for about the last 50-100mb of files that I put on it, whatever last files I put on it were, they would be corrupted. The 2gb card just one day stopped working, nothing could read it and after many attempts nothing would recognize it anymore.
Goes to show a backup of the sdcard every now and then isn't such a bad idea either.

I had the same problem and it ended up being the card. I then bought a Sandisk Ultra II 1GB SD and it no more corrupted files!

I have a Treo 650 with a 2GB SD card. When I format it with the Treo it says I have 1.8GB available for storage. However when I read the card on a Mac through a card reader, it says I only have 1GB available and I am only able to store 1GB of data to the card (using click and drag of files from the Mac to the card). I can store more data to the card when it is in the Treo but I can't store more data from the Mac to the card. Where's the 0.8GB?

Make sure there aren't any files that you dragged to the trash from the card reader. Macs will include any trashed files on the drive as used memory untill you empty the trash. If that doesn't work, I would suggest trying another card reader.

Thank you for the suggestion. I used an i(dot)connect USB 2.0 card reader and I have full access to my 2.0GB! No more using LaCie card readers (although I love their hard drives).
