Help...beam me out of my Treo!

« on: 05 October 2005, 19:56:34 »

Hi,

I purchased a Targus PA870 IR Keyboard to replace a Palm Universal Wireless keyboard that developed worn contacts in 9 months. The construction and layout of ther PA870 certainly looked more robust than the Palm keyboard. However, installation of the OS5 driver (circa Dec '03) on the Treo 650 has shown that the performance of the PA870 is disappointing! Even with slow, steady typing, key entries are not recognized. I haven't gone any further in my trail because the performance of just simple typing is so poor. Is this problem common?

The lack of a more recent driver update is also disconcerting  Undecided  Is the PA870 a deadend product WRT Palm OS?

Thanks

Check this page from Targus's site - the driver they have posted may be more recent.

Thanks azgatekeep,

I did go to Targus's D/L site to retreive the driver...should have mentioned that the latest version I can find is 1.28 EN. This version was on the D/L website and the CD packaged with the keyboard. The date on the driver file written on the CD is 3 Dec '03.

I have since attempted to use the keyboard with additional keyboard settings...about the best key entry performance achieved is 4-5 entries before a skip. The shift keys seem to be the worst...taking maybe 3 attempts before the instruction is accepted.

Well let me tell you something, several years ago i used the same keyboard with a treo 680 and I can tell you that was awesome, fast typing and by fast I mean very fast, like a normal usb keyboard.

And now... I have a treo 755p and I tought, mmmm I have this keyboard and a Palm OS device again, but when I installed the software from the Targus Page (version 1.35) it's horrible, like a word for 3 or 4 secs Sad very disappointing, I can't write anything, it's imposible.

Later I tried the driver form the CD, 1.28 EN, that version is the one that i used with the 680, but guess what?? Ohhh no the same thing, horribly slow!!!!

I can't understand it, why with the 680 was a charm, and with the 775p is a lame thing...

Ideas??
