i need help with adding mp3 ringtones and actually using them as ringtones can anyone help me please and i would also like to know of some cool programs for my treo 755 and is it possible to get windows mobile on it thanks alot everyone!

Start in the Knowledge Base. There are two methods of using mp3 ringtones. One, convert them using the free app Musictones, the other use a 3rd party ringtone manager to use them directly from your sd card - there are 8 million threads on those topics.

If you want WinMob, get a winmob device.

I just found an awesome site that allowed me to upload a song, place the start and finish mark brackets { } for the portion of the song I wanted as the ringtone (30 seconds or less works best) then send it as a text link to my phone. Once there the uploader tool placed it into my ringtones folder and it was really as easy as 1-2-3.
Definitely easier than the WavePad program I have been using to make ringtones for my Mogul.
My trials and errors on my wifes phone are sure making her happy Grin

Alli and ripped are correct, there is NO (0) need for this third party website (i.e. myxer.com or mobilereelz.com) with your palm based phone.  All you need is the Freeware Musictones (or for older models minitones though I think Musictones works with older devices as well so minitones may be moot).

That said, while mcafee give the mobilereelz site a green check, it didn't have much info.

The Site itself only converts to three tone types, none of which are (I believe) natively supported by Palm phones.

You are almost done! Title your ringtone keep it nice and short. Select the ringtone format (QCP,MP3,M4A). If you do not know your ringtone format use QCP. Enter your mobile number and carrier you want us to send the ringtone to and wait for your ringtone!

Best use either tone creator (Musictones which makes .ton files) of Lightwav/Ringo/mRing/Phone Technician type mp3 ringtone program.

I'm trying to get mp3 ringtones on my Centro but don't have an SD card, how can I go about it.  I guess minitones and musictones will only recognize your mp3s if you have them on the card.  Is there any sort of file management program that will allow me to move/copy the mp3 from ptunes to minitones?

Thanks!

Cards are very inexpensive and you will definitely want one.  Welcome to MTDN.

hey all,

what application(s) support(s) using a different MP3 for each caller in your contacts list?

I want to assign individual tones to MANY different callers in my contacts, but the ones that come with the treo are lame.  really if I HAD to use midi, I'd do that, I just need a way to add midi ringtones to my existing selections.

can anyone help?

thanks!

On the Centro you can use mp3 from Ptunes for ringtones in the following manner.

Goto your browser do not connect to the internet and type the following

File:///BUILTIN/Music/xxx.mp3         and hit Go

xxx.mp3= the name of your mp3

The file path must be right and Blazer does not read blank space and some other stuff so keep your name simple.

After you hit go you will get a couple of messages hit ok and then save as ringtone.

That's neat, never would of guessed that to work.  But the user you quoted asked (over a year ago Tongue) how to do it without a memory card.  Which is not possible since you cannot store mp3 files on the device... Right?

I missed the year ago thing. Im always late.lol

You can store mp3 on the Centro without an SD card.
Ptunes stores Mp3 in a file called BULTIN/Music. BUILTIN is the space Palm allocated for files other than prc or pdb files. Other sub folders in the BUILTIN folder is where your jpeg files and other non prc and pdb file are stored.

If you have an SD card you can use this path FILE:///cardname/AUDIO/music/xxx.mp3
Works on the 680 also but I dont have one so I cant confirm that.

Yeah fstop - one may not be able to use Music/Minitones without a card (part of the reason why I've found them pretty much useless and have never used them), but that doesn't mean tones can't be transferred to the sounds app in other ways, such as the old file:/// method mentioned by rsbas, or with Resco, etc.

To note, for n e one planning to do this: make sure that your specific location is correct - not everyone uses a "music" or "audio" subdirectory.

Although as a secondary note of course: just get a card (I mean really - 2 gigs are like $3 now)
