Hi, Christine,
Your treo 650-generated prc won't run on my 600 - could you post the jad file so I can run it thru my Midlet app? I can't get to the url of the jad file in Midlet or in Blazer.

Thx,
Shneor

I'm so stoked to finally get Opera on the Treo.  I've been holding my breath for a long time that they'd release a PalmOS version.  But I'll take the Java version.
I already use Reqwireless WebViewer which runs in Java so downloading yet another java web browser is no big deal to me.

So far I haven't used it a lot, but it shows promise.  I look forward to trying it out over the next days and weeks.  It looks great.  Thanks Christine.
I'm a bit frustrated that after about each 8 page download my treo resets.  I suspect that it's a memory issue so I've adjusted the java memory options to try to avoid this.

Is the hi memory or low memory version?  I tried the link to the WAP site but I get an error message saying I need a WAP browser to download it.  So I'm using the PRC from here.  Which version is it?

Thanks!!

WOW!  This is sooo freaking cool! Smiley   Thanks Christine for sharing this.  A native palm app would be ideal, but to have a java ver is also cool!

It's super exciting.  Opera Mini is a super rudimentary browser -- not being able to change the start page and the giant freaking banner at the top of the screen kind of suck, but it's hard to beat the price on this right now.  Here's hoping we'll get good revisions (and ...er, an offical release for non TV2 users).  It would be super wonderful to get some of Opera's desktop features in a mobile browser, or at least some of the ingenuity they've shown there.

As a side note, I'm noticing that my installation and uninstallation of FreeNews (a less than totally exciting Java-based RSS aggregator) has screwed up my Java thinger.  Damn you, FreeNews!

Anyone else having problems moving Opera mini to the card using Zlauncher?!   I'm getting a wierd sys 0502 error?  Anyone know what that mean?  Also, the Opera mini midlet does NOT show up on the Uninstaller apps list for some reason?  Wierd... Hmmmm Huh?

the Java stuff apparently doesn't like to be broken up. Its a good thing that I dumped ePoc in favor of Tarascon. Now I have room for a new hog, JAVA for KMaps and Opera

...and when will miniMo make an appearance???

Yeah 100th, but I have no problems moving any of the other java midlets to the card using zlauncher, just Opera mini!  Huh?  For example I can move kmaps, jbrowser, piranha etc to the card seamlessly using zlauncher with nada, no probs...

If you look at the opera prc file attributes, it's copy protected.  But even if you try to remove the copy protected attribute using zlauncher file manager, you still get the error....Any thoughts?

I also get an error when trying to move the Java app, which used to move fine on the 600. Agreed, some move without problems, but some do. I have found Java to be fragile and tend not to tamper with it too much. Very small therapeutic window for experimentation without crashing and killing the whole thing and having to reinstall

Shows up fine in the DickieDware DestallerLite dance

A few things I noted tonight in several tries and setup attempts/constructions.  Apparently, as Snerdy noticed also, uninstalling Java based apps seems to mess with and change the installed Java itself and disables it for other Java apps - happened after uninstalling n e Java I tested with (KMaps, Opera, the default IBM...).  I guess I'd recommend instead simply deleting the main prc for that particular app (using built-in launcher or file manager), as in my tests that seemed not to cause the problems.

Still haven't been able to pin down why it's not showing up in all launchers/uninstall utilities/etc.

And 2 posts per month is hardly acceptable for a person that can offer as much as you , gfunk.  Holla

Has anyonne been able to browse for any period of time w/o a reset?  If so what are your settings in the IBM Java VM prefs? I get a reset after about 5-10 pages of surfing and sometimes i have to double tap links because the don't load the first time?

It is the HiFi version. The LoFi version is lacking colours and logos.
To use the wap site use Blazer - a PC browser will not give you the download links.

Oh, I thought you must have used the Midlet app. When I try to get to it in Blazer, I get two lines in Norwegian. (Du m1knytte deg til denne tienested via WAP-leseren p1 din mobiltelefon). Can you tell me what this means? Are you downloading a prc file? Is your Blazer going through the proxy server?

It's the wierdest thing. I removed YAHM and MsMount, whidch seemed to be causing problems. Sometimes when I run Opera Mini, I get an immediate error. Sometimes, it starts, and I get to the screen to select the language - and it crashes when I hig the drop-down arrow. Once, I succeeded in changing the language and entered a URL - and my coverage quit and froze.

Alternatively, can anyone post the URL of the actual hi-memory download file? When I go to mini.opera.com/tv2/ most browsers see it as a file. In Blazer, I can see the link to the download file, but I can't get the actual url.

Also, I think it wants to be connected in advance to work.

Anyone else try this on a Treo 600? What's the verdict?

Thx,
Shneor
