ILast night I wouldn't take 'No' for an answer so tried to set up pop3 email on the Treo 600.  Well, good news and bad news.  First, I have it set to T-zones.  It will receive email from my cable modem account but can't send out.

To send e-mail, you need to set up your SMTP account on the T-MObile web site. Most ISPs and e-mail providers won't accept SMTP originating out of their network (unless you can securely log in specifically to your e-mail account). So your SMTP server will be myemail.t-mobile.com. Your userid is your phone mumber followed by":1" - for example, 1112223333:1.
You define your password on the T-Mobile web site (you can elect to use the same password you use for your ISP) and that is the password you use in your SMTP setup screen on your Treo 600.

I can set up email on TMO website but there is no option to configure smtp settings per your suggestion above. I can set manually the smtp settings on the treo and in fact already tried your suggestion (eg. user ID being my phone number:1, etc. but it doesn't work.

Log in to T-Mobile. Click on communications, myemail, settings, mailboxes, pop serrings and follow the instructions.

Treo 600 does not work with free wap...in fact according to them, can't even set up wap on the Treo 600....does that make sense to you (yes, i saw your DO NOT alert above  yes) , and CS said would work only with t-zones and/or unlimited internet access plan.
Unless she's wrong, ...
Yeah, these are the same people who said that T-Zones is not supported on the T600.  Roll Eyes

Not only is free WAP possible, it's used by a lot of people.

I ... searched through a variety of forums (howard forum, info scoop, etc) and couldn't find anything.
You couldn't have searched much in only 3 hours...  Tongue

I spent a month researching the supposedly free WAP access and learned that it was supposedly disconnected by T-Mobile about 2 weeks before I got my Treo. I signed up with $4.99 T-Zones and couldn't be happier.

Then I told a friend who has a T180 about my efforts and he laughed. In 2 minutes he had me set up with free WAP.

Try extending your search a little longer and wider. "free wap" is generally a good term to look for, and howardforums.com is your best first source. Here are the links to start with:

I'd be interested in your comments to my posting of today re what has happened this past evening....with free wap (or T-zones) on the Treo 600 I appear to have full internet access yet pop3 email is fully operational (can retrieve but not send out) ??

that can be solved using a 3rd party SMTP service like the one from your ISP or google or yahoo or http://www.bluebottle.com/

Now, the PUNCHLINE: with free wap (or T-Zones??) on the Treo 600, I can full internet access via the default application -web blazer browser.  YES, you heard me right, I can access the web...I have logged on to hotmail, yahoo mail, a couple of my pop3 email accounts using their webmail sites, checked sports, weather, you get the message yes

So maybe you can try T-zones and see what happens....if it works, drop the $19.95 plan!

For me, I've not given up on sending email on the first pop3 email account, nor given up to set up the second account.....anyone with suggestions, jump in.

I tried to set up new T-zone sevice at Preferences/Network (existing T-Zone is locked up), but not working. Could you tell me how to set up correctly? Also are you using existing browser(Blazer)?

 Huh?

this is a little tip I read in a forum a while back which may help sum people... someone mention that if u have Tmobile unlimited plan then switch to Tzones u'll have more of a chance of having all the ports unblocked and u won't have to change any proxy settings! I think this might be true because I did it and didn't have to enter a proxy after I switched to Tzones and have had no problems at all with programs that require internet access... I say IF your having problems sign up for the unlimited plan for a day or 2 then switch to Tzones... it'll be prorated to ur bill so u'll only be charged a couple bux and hopefully it'll fix most of ur problems cuz I have 0... let me know if anyone has success

How do you get to this menu?

Here is my story:
I just got a Treo 600.  I had tzones for 2 years on another phone and was able to browse and IM Chat. (very slowly).  I changed to the Treo and installed VeriChat.  I don't really care about browsing, but I do want access to instant messaging.

VeriChat has Tzones, Tmobile VPN and Tmobile Internet as connection sources.  I can connect to Tzones, but not the other 2, as others were saying.  Tzones connects fine.  But when I launch Verichat, I get a connection error to the AIM and Yahoo proxy servers. (not using ICQ or MSN right now).  I have tried everything listed in this thread.  TMO CS is no help at all, they say I have to pay for the $20/month internet package.  I DO HAVE the $4.99/month 400 messages tzones package right now, and tzones connects.  But not VeriChat.

What am I doing wrong????

I can do that.

Something I just thought of that might be a "d'oh!" moment for me....
I am using the free trial version of Verichat.  It says that it expires on 1/31/2006, so I should be fine unless for some reason the trial version won't ever actually connect.

Also, I can't find anywhere in the phone where to set Proxy settings.

EDIT>>
I don't think reinstalling will help because the unti won't hit the web either when connected to Tzones.  It will connect to Tzones fine, no problems there.  But it doesn't seem to be able to see anything after that.  I think that I need to update that proxy setting listed above, but I don't know where to do that.

La-Tee-Frickin-Da!
I found the proxy settings.  For reference, you can go to the browser, choose Options ->Preferences ->Advanced ->Proxy.  Here you can set the IP and port for the proxy.  I set this and it did connect to the Tmobile website, but wanted me to sign up for a $5.99 a month Tzones package.  I did this and now I am waiting on a confirmation of the new service.

Choose the other option that says "Tzones" not the VPN one.  It should connect then.
