My Treo and I have a love/hate relationship!

« on: 12 June 2005, 20:36:54 »

I am still new to the treo 650 and i am now aware of how important the built in memory is, as i am now starting to run low also. Before i use anymore memory i wanted to know what are the most essential applications/utilities to have on the treo.

I love myTreo!

« Reply #1 on: 12 June 2005, 20:59:36 »

First issue is whether you have updated you ROM to 1.08.  If not, that will boost your RAM significantly.  If your ROM is updated, I would want to have Launcher, probably LauncherX (smaller app than zlauncher) to easily access apps on SD card and to organize.  I would want Butler, does lots of good stuff, including favorites launching outside the phone app.  Another app I like is ProfileCare, which helps me save power and set up my Treo the way I want it at given times.

Hope this helps!

I've said this time and time again....a Backup Utility such as Backupman or BackupBuddyVFS can prove to be priceless!

I would say Docs To Go, pTunes, TreoGuard, VeriChat, and Worldmate. Oh yeah, there's also Obfuscate (which hides unwanted ROM apps).

Hi,

Absolutely the first utility on my 650? Uninstall Manager. This is a must if you tried out lots of apps.

Hi,

I'm a noob myself (had my treo for 3 weeks now), but have so far identified 4 must haves:

* Profile Manager by Milan Votava
- As seen on cell phones, you can set up different profiles for work, home, car etc. You can even assign keyboard shortcuts for changing profiles. And guess what! The program is freeware!!! Can't believe it Smiley

* Filez (nosleep software)
- Freeware files management for card and internal memory. Can't live without it!

* Avantgo (www.avantgo.com)
- Just installed it, but had so much use of it with my old handspring visor some years ago. I'm sure I'll find it just as useful now.

* tcpmp
- Movie player. Sooo good for show-off. It's also excellent at entertaining my kids when we're travelling (got a kids movie on it). Works excellent in conjunction with the Pocket DivX encoder.

Regards,
Jakob

What exactly does avantgo do? And do you need to connect to the internet through your cell phone to use it?

BackupBuddy VFS
DateBk5
WorldMate Pro
FileZ
TCPMP (on SD card)
AvantGo (no you don't need to connect to the internet with your phone to use/update, it can do that when you Hot Sync - but it's just as easy to update over the air)
PocketTunes Deluxe
Docs To Go (mostly on SD card, using the DataViz TechTool)
LauncherX

I'm probably leaving a few out, but these are some of the ones I use most often. Most, if not all, of these can be found in our Downloads section.

What exactly does avantgo do? And do you need to connect to the internet through your cell phone to use it?

You can read all about it on www.avantgo.com, but I'll give you a quick intro. The basic idea is the ability to download online contents to your pda during hotsync (on a PC with web accesss - its also possible to do it OTA), so you can browse it offline afterwards.

Avantgo and the content providers use a special format thats very suitable for PDAs called channels, but you can even define your own private channels (if you want to download any website for offline browsing).

Content providers include cnet, wired etc. Being danish, I also subscribe to a few danish channels available. I'm sure there are many providers for other countries as well.
