Hello, Is there a hack to disable the autocorrect from lowercase i to capital I. This feature makes the Treo quite awkard to use for all people that do not write in english. I know the backspace trick but whats the point with a keyboard if it does not print what you type? I suppose it would be nice for some people, but it should be an option, not a hard coded feature. Anyone know? Thanks a lot!
Best Regards Finn Ove

No known hacks. I guess it's this procedure you already know?
To get a lower case I type two spaces, then left on the 5-way, type i, and then right on the 5-way. This will keep a lowercase letter, but it's 5 button presses and not one...

Great tip! Den var ny for meg It is also possible to press i, then space, then backspace twice, then space. But it is still 5 button presses. Ville ikke forundre meg om du har samme problem What's wrong with shift-i for those who need a capital I? Best Regards Finn Ove

Great tip back! Din variant var ny for meg. Mine is suitable for two-hand typists, and yours for the one hand operators. What's wrong with shift-i for those who need a capital I? I guess it would track back to a lazy programmer in Handspring not expecting the device to be sold outside the US.

Bum: If you really do need someone to try this on the 650 I can be game. However, the 650 uses a newer version HsExtensions 5.0 v. 2.0. Not sure what changes they made between 1.0 and 2.0 and whether there will be conflicts.
Backing up my treo now and then I will give it a whirl.

I only have access to a VZW 650 emulator right now. If someone can send me the "HsExtensions 5.0 v. 2.0_enUS.prc" for a Sprint 650 (assuming they are different), I'd be glad to take a look,

OK, for a Sprint PCS (CDMA) Treo 650, try this one. After initial tests this is working with i and with no resets. Nice job Bum and kudos.

The files discussed so far merely disable the "i-I", but it would be very easy to modify other "corrections". I'm wondering if maybe the best approach wouldn't be to make available a set of files that disable "autocorrect" altogether.
The biggest sore spot for me was the whole 'i' autocorrect feature. I like to be able to type cant and have it displayed as can't etc. Since the size is small maybe you can provide two solutions: one to disable just the 'i' autocorrect and another to disable all autocorrect features.

I'm impressed by the great progress in this thread, thanks to you Bum! I've tried the file from this post: Thanks, smith! OK, for a Sprint PCS (CDMA) Treo 650, try this one. but it does not work on my Treo 650 GSM phone, it seems. Have you got the GSM-file sent to you, yet? What sw do I need to get it?

Works great, indeed! Tested both i, hel, and wel. they are all disabled. Tried dont and it will change to don't as expected and as it should. Thanks! Maybe you could write an app to edit this file on the palm and earn some money on it.

Awesome! Would be nice if there was a tool to create new ones though? So you could create your own substitutions, that would make typing easier.
Oh, and has anyone noticed that the substitutions don't occur at all in VersaMail?
