KMaps 1.7 (for Palm OS)
KMaps is an application that implements some of the Google Maps functionality and optimizes it for the Treo smartphone. It is a work in progress and feedback is appreciated. NOTE: KMaps is a Java mobile application and requires that Java be installed on your device. You must install a Java capable environment. The IBM Java implementation WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment is recommended by Palm, and is available at no cost to customers who purchased a Treo 650 smartphone, a Tungsten T5 handheld or a Zire 72 handheld. Go to http://www.palm.com/us/support/jvm/ for download details. Other customers with supported devices can purchase IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment at Software Connection for $5.99.
The ZIP file contains 3 PRC files - install them all. Only use the PRC link for upgrading KMaps!!!

mobilelew: This is a great app. The ability to search from contacts is superb. The Google app is nice, but if you like the ability to have the information listed step by step without the map, then kmaps is for you. I personally think this is a much better app than Google. I give it 10.
ace22: Great app until Google Maps for treos came along and put the program in the retirement home. The Google app is impressive and free.

RayZ: I'm also getting the "Missing IBM Java VM" message in spite of having downloaded it and installed it successfully. Does anyone know how this can be fixed? I'd appreciate help on this since it's not the only app that requires it.
evans1: Kmaps does not work with UK maps as advertised - gives error "java,lang.RuntimeException:Document has no root element!" . I've found a post on the web saying UK maps was pulled due to legal reasons - only the US version works. So only 5 as I'm in the UK
Ehong33234: Hope this helps people who are having problems with the "Missing IBM Java VM." I had that same problem and tried many things. I first deleted some unused apps to free up more space on my treo Ram. Then, I also deleted all of the IBM apps and Java/Java related apps. After, I pressed the Power button to put the phone on sleep. Then I took the battery out of the phone. This enabled me to refresh everything. I hotsync'd the J9JavaVMMidp20.prc & JavaVMCheck_enUS.prc files again to my phone. It finally let me go to "Prefs," where I changed the Memory and Java Thread Stack both to 32mb (max). Hit Ok. If you haven't installed Kmaps already, install it and run it. You will be prompted for login/pass... just make something up. Again, I've been frustrated by this for about an hour... so hope it helps others.

Upgrade Instructions: If you have KMaps pre 1.5 version installed on your device, you will HAVE TO DELETE KMaps first. Delete KMaps the same way you are deleting any other application. In other words you will have to start from the scratch including the registration. You may use the same email and password you used to register with KMaps initially.
Also, if you have SD card, you will HAVE TO DELETE "gmaps" folder on SD card since the previous map image handling is not compatible with 1.5 version. You only need to run KMaps.prc to install, since you already have the other 2 prc files installed.

PayPal accepts payments as low as couple of dollars and also accepts Credit Card payments even if you are not a PayPal member. As the things stand now, out of several thousand who downloaded, less than 0.8% actually donated. Consider being among them...
