FindHack 4.0.7 (for Palm OS)
FindHack 4.0.7 (for Palm OS)
FindHack is a replacement for the Palm OS? Find function. Its powerful features make it an essential utility for everyday use. The ZIP file includes an extensive User's Manual.
ix0ye: cool concept! Works on the Treo 680, but does not pick up all the applications in main memory. It also does not seem to like the apps used through PowerRun or ZLauncer. I really like the idea though.
dzire: Please Test with Treo680
Thank you
johngrant: I bought this Product 4 months ago. One of the BEST Palm Product in my Opinion

gapleki: 1. still have problem with Treo650 (if you press cancel, the default FIND program will show up)
2. Can not search SMS (messaging)
3. The apps selection did not work as expected (you can set selected apps to search, but it wont search them, eg: SMS (messaging))
4. I still get occasional soft reset when doing search (could be due to some other 3rd party program)
5. The treo650 built in Find is just as powerful
While it is Excellent tools for the old palm, I really can not recommended it for TREO650
goldweard: this has really sped up my searches. I can't always remember which database holds what i'm looking for (I have lots of data).
Version History
v4.0.7 September, 2005
- Added new Built-Ins setting for Notepad app
- Application sets have been modified to not automatically include newly installed apps in existing sets
- Default apps for Address Book and Mail are now properly recognized for new installations on recent palmOne devices
- Fixed issues with the "Non-roman" text mode of FindHack which could match the wrong text
- Fixed a crasher on some devices when editing application sets or favorites
Features
- Remembers the last searches you did (configurable, up to 30 recent search terms can be stored)
- Lets you preconfigure an unlimited number of favorites, with their search rules
- Lets you select where the search will be performed: in all applications, in built-in applications (Address Book, Date Book, To-Do List, Memo Pad, Mail, Expense), the current application, the current text field or user-defined application sets.
- Lets you find a text even if it is not at the beginning of a word. Palm's standard Find function does not allow this.
- Wildcards can be used when searching:
- Use the question mark (?) or dot (.) as a generic character.
- Use '*' as a wildcard for any sequence of characters.
- Use '!' to specify that the next character must be found at beginning of a word. It is very helpful to find sequences of numbers: you can for example use wildcards to search for all entries containing the numbers 50 and 60 using this search string: !50*!60. You can also use it for names, for example searching for '!eric' will find 'Eric' but not 'Frederic'.
- Boolean searches are possible: you can enter several words (aka 'Terms') in the Find field and have FindHack look for Any term (a record containing any of the words will match the search) or All terms (a record containing all of the words in any order will match the search).
- Lets you find the next occurence of a text in the current text field. Very handy when you are editing a long memo and want to retrieve information in it.
- Lets you manage application sets. An application sets defines which applications are to be searched. This way, you can speed up Find operations when you know that the information you are looking for is located only in a specific set of applications.
- You can make the search case-insensitive and accent-insensitive.
- The results list only shows those apps containing matches for the search string.
- FindHack remembers the results that were found during the last search and can show you the scrollable list of last search results.
