ChangeName 3.2 (for Palm OS)
ChangeName 3.2 (for Palm OS)
With ChangeName you can set/change the PalmOS UserName (the HotSyncName) and the UserID directly on your PalmOS device.
For PalmOS 3.x and 4.x, you can also fake the FlashRomSerialNumber and the OS Version (string). Normally you set/change the UserName with the PalmDesktop (Win/Mac) or install-user (Un*x/Linux).
Change Name also includes a Windows program to show all users in the PalmDesktop user database (users.dat) and it allows to change a user name on the desktop.
Note:Use with caution!
roman00: Great app! works perfectly on my treo 680. no sync errors.
KabukiAssassin: ROCKS! Just what I needed. I have like 50 apps that I have to register after every hard reset/ZL screwup that require my HS name & this app keeps me from having to mess with actually hotsyncing. Thank god!
moody: very good app
s94m97: really a good Idea, saved a lot of work
serge44u: thanks, you gave me a good relief after a long sleepless night trying to figure it out. :-)
no, seriously: thanx a lot!
good prog!
nztoby: Great tool. Didn't have a HotSync name to start with (go figure), and now I do! Bring on the downloads.
Jelly: This is very useful! A must have, especially if you're fed up with your old hot sync username.

With ChangeName you can set/change the PalmOS UserName (the HotSync Name) and the PalmOS UserID. Normally you don't see the UserID but the PalmDesktop uses this to identify the device while syncing. If you only change the UserName and sync the PalmDesktop will set your UserName as it was before (the device will be identified with the UserID). So if you want to sync with different users you have to change both the UserName and the UserID.
You can also create a new user, just change the UserName and the UserID to new values and sync, than you will be asked if a new user should be created by the PalmDesktop.
If you just want to play with the UserName don't change to UserID because if you change it you will not be able to do a sync with your account until you reset it to the old value. Write down your original UserID before you change it !!!
If you use the pilot-link stuff (Un*x/Linux) you don't have to care about the UserID.
The UserID can only be:
- 256 - 65535.
- UserID 0 - 255 are special.
- 0 means no ID present
- 1 - 255 are profiles.
You can also fake the ROM ID (FlashRom serial number) and the OS version (string), this is done by patching the traps. This will also work AFTER a soft reset! To deactivate the fakes, just clear the two fields and tap on "Set ROM/OS".
This works only with PalmOS < 5.x
