Sena Treo flip top case

When I opened the box containing Sena's flip top Treo case, I found it nestled inside a red flannel drawstring bag. When I pulled the case from the pouch, my initial reaction was one of profound disappointment. Disappointment that this case is not yet available for the Centro, because I've never felt such soft leather before.

Seidio Crystal case for Treo 680

Posted by Duane Aubin at 12:05 PM
680_cry.jpg

We love cases, don’t we? All Treo users have a Treo, so it’s in the mix of software and accessories that we “express ourselves”. The case is often the first thing that is seen as a reflection of our personality and how we use our Treo.

And many cases, there are. Some are hard, some soft. Some are black, some brown, some fire-engine red, some clear. Some have pockets, some are like a second skin. Some aren’t cases at all but claws… I have yet to find “that one perfect case” for me, so I’ve got to try a many as I can, and took the Seidio Crystal Case for a spin.

We have Prima's new Centro cases! (Review.)

Prima has put two great feet forward into the Centro market with a Stylish Premium Leather Open Face case and Premium Leather Lateral Holster Style case.

As with past Prima Treo cases, their new open face case is beautiful and expertly made (see left image). Your Centro slides in from the top, and there is a heavy snap closure to keep it in place. The leather is high quality and perfectly supple with almost invisible stitching. It's a case designed to last.

Neurostechnology, DRM, and the OSD

Posted by Alli Flowers at 05:47 AM
OSD-11TV.JPG

A quick study note before diving into this controversial and exciting topic. According to Wikipedia:

"Digital rights management (DRM) is an umbrella term that refers to access control technologies used by publishers and copyright holders to limit usage of digital media or devices. It may also refer to restrictions associated with specific instances of digital works or devices. To some extent, DRM overlaps with copy protection, but DRM is usually applied to creative media (music, films, etc.) whereas copy protection typically refers to software."

You will remember Neurostechnology from my review of the Neuros MPEG4 Video Recorder 2 PLUS back in November 2006. One of the many great things about using the Neuros mpeg4 Video Recorder 2 Plus was that it copied, unconditionally, whatever was in your video library. Along with the release of the OSD (more on that later), Neurostechnology has gone on a crusade against the use of DRM.

Boxwave Cradle

palm_centro_desktopcradle_sparebattery1_lg.jpg

Given my heavy Centro use and its small battery, I was looking for a cradle that would charge a spare battery. I was disappointed to find that while the Palm standard cradle will charge the Centro, the device does not fit snugly, nor will it sync the device. BoxWave answered all my needs.

While the cradle does have a rather large footprint, that results in making it very stable. It comes with both a USB cable and an ac cable. The cradle sports two LED lights - one for the battery and one for the power. The LED for the power is VERY bright…so bright that it hurt my eyes. I had to cover it up with a piece of tape!

Proporta Mobile Device Charger

Posted by Alli Flowers at 11:11 PM
micro_image1.jpg
Proporta has a new gadget that I just had to try for myself. The Mobile Device Charger - Micro is exactly as the title implies. Smaller than a Centro, and weighing so little that it barely registers, this little goodie packs 1700mAh of battery. It's small enough to fit in any pocket and not be noticed.

The design is clever, and while it wasn't made to work with a Treo, it works more easily with a Treo than the manufacturers could have imagined. To charge the battery itself, you plug a standard usb cord into the charger at one end and your computer's usb port at the other end. The usb cable is just one of the many extras supplied with the Mobile Survival Kit. The charger comes pre-charged, and it takes only a short while to charge it completely. A row of blue LED lights on the front of the charger show you that it's fully charged.

Seidio 1300mAh Battery fits Treo 680/750

Posted by Shane Nelson at 11:57 PM
bat1300.jpg
Upon receiving the Seidio 1300 mAh High Capacity Battery for my Treo 680, I was immediately impressed with its quality. This is the first Seidio product that I have ever tried, and it did not disappoint! The 1300 mAh battery comes with a 6 month warranty and shows that the company stands firmly behind their products.

The Seidio battery is slightly thicker than the stock Palm battery. This thickness does not impair the original battery plate from fitting on the phone. Many batteries offer more power but a separate battery cover. While there is nothing wrong with that, my preference is to keep my Treo 680 at its original size. The battery also fits in the spare battery charger of my cradle, which is also very handy. I was initially unsure as to whether it would fit due to the added thickness, but it did!

Nearly magical memory cards

eyefi-ces-2008-2.jpg

Every once in a while technologies converge in a way that seems magical.

Eye-Fi Cards are memory cards for photographers that automatically transmit images via WiFi. Simply take photos, store them on an Eye-Fi card, and the card will transfer them to your computer when it detects your home wireless network. Eye-Fi cards are also designed to automatically interact with Facebook, Kodak, Photobucket and TypePad, among other popular sites.

New tripod from Joby for Treo & Centro owners

Posted by webmaster at 08:41 PM
gpod-finger-bend.jpg

Joby manufacturers the Gorillapod, a popular accessory designed to secure cameras to a variety of stationary objects using "gripping legs," which wrap around and hold onto things. Unlike traditional tripods, Gorillapods are small and lightweight, intended for stabilizing in high places rather than on the ground.

We believe this simple accessory is a great idea for photographers. In addition, Joby designed a way for Gorillapods to work with smartphones.
