Every once in a while we like to check up on Palm's competition.
Samsung Electronics is one of the most resourceful companies in the world, with over $80 billion annually in sales. (Palm is about 1/50th the size, with $1.6 billion in turnover.) The company ships approximately 40 million mobile phones per year globally. Based in South Korea, Samsung's most popular smartphone offered in the United States is the Blackjack II.
Treo and Centro owners know that despite Samsung's riches, the electronics manufacturer has failed to eclipse the competition in the smartphone market. The Blackjack II has an attractive form factor. But the device has a small screen that does not respond to touch. The five way navigational pad must be used to launch and switch between programs. That said, the sheer size of Samsung means it can become a force for Palm to reckon with at any time.
Check out our two video interviews with a senior executive from this mobile phone Goliath. In the first video, Samsung shows off their newest smartphone models available in the US. In the second video, we discuss Samsung's upcoming WiMax smartphone and ultra-mobile PC planned for sale only in South Korea.
