We've come to know JAVOedge for their quality skins, screen protectors, charging cables and other accessory necessities. Let's see how they do with a leather case for the Treo 650.

The JAVOLeather case for the Treo 650 appears to be beautifully crafted. The phone fits very tightly into the case; it will not going to slip out accidentally. All functions of the phone are accessible through cutouts, although it is a little difficult to get the stylus out with the case on. The keypad is covered by a flexible plastic sheet. Incidentally, although designed for a 650, the Treo 700 also fits nicely in this case.

The case has 2 SD card slots. The cards are held very tightly – again, no worries about them slipping out. On the down side, this also meant that they were difficult to get out when I wanted them. The case also has 3 credit/business card slots, as opposed to only one in many other cases. These slots are also nice and tight. Unfortunately, with each additional item I added to the slots, the case became increasingly difficult to close. The pressure from the cards ended up pushing buttons on my device as I struggled to fasten it. Further, about the 3rd or 4th time I put cards in the slot, one of the sides ripped open.

This case comes with a removable belt clip. The pin screws in, and can be tightened sufficiently by hand, although it does have a slot for a screw driver or the edge of a coin. The clip itself is designed to rotate freely through 360 degrees, however, if the case is closed, the flap closure gets in the way and the clip either won't swivel, or will knock the magnetic snap loose.

The case has a metal grommet surrounding the camera opening. While it is a nice touch, I don't know that it adds anything functionally to the case.

Pros

  • Three credit card slots, as opposed to one in most other cases
  • Two nice, tight SD card slots
  • Excellent fit on device
  • Belt clip is removable

Cons

  • Workmanship and or materials were flawed
  • Case is difficult to close with cards in any or all of the slots
  • Belt clip won't swivel when case is closed
  • Due to the flip-down style, this case will not fit in the Seidio INNODock cradle.

In conclusion, while there seemed to be a lot of thought as to the added features of this case, the implementation left a lot to be desired.

It's nice to know that they're keeping up with technology. At this rate, we can expect a Centro case sometime in 2011.

Very odd to be announcing a 650 at this late stage in the product's life cycle.
