Migo Software recently met with us to discuss a new version of their PC-to-device syncing software, which is in beta now and will be made available more broadly in January. Code named "Slingshot," the software searches for a wide variety of media on your computer, converts it on-the-fly to formats compatible with your Palm OS or Windows Mobile smartphone, and then transfers it to your device via sync. As a result, you can quickly and easily use services like iTunes, MediaMonkey and Napster with your Treo.

Migo is a public company that has won awards for their desktop sync, backup and data obliteration software. We spent an hour with their Chief Operating Officer and Marketing Director, who demonstrated a number of patent pending proprietary technologies. We recorded a portion of their presentation for display on mytreo.net. (See above or click here.)

Like the Virtual Laser Keyboard and Medis Fuel Cell Charger long before they came to market, and like WildCharger nine months before it was named Time Magazine's "product of the year," you heard about Migo's upcoming "universal sync" software here first!

Neat idea, I look forward to seeing how well it lives up to the hype.

But the big problem with multimedia play on the Treo still remains the lack of a standard headphone jack. Adapters, bluetooth hacks and other workarounds will continue to keep serious multimedia usage out of the reach of the Treo/Centro devices.

I've been using a USB pen drive now for about 8 months and I've had trouble at times when I have tried to integrate with all of my desktop applications. Some programs have cool features but lacks the ability to fully sync information. As a proponent of open source software I've used a few of the free apps out there, but I've had the best results with MigoSync from www.migosoftware.com

I've been using the offline files functionality in Windows 2000 and XP for a long time. I have a desktop machine (Windows 2000 SP 4) in which I keep most of my files and shares some folders, and a laptop (Windows XP SP 2) which uses those folders as a client and keeps some of them available offline so I can work on the laptop while I am away from the office. Yesterday I got a new desktop PC set up with Windows 2000 SP 4, so I had to break the offline connection between my laptop and my old desktop. I transferred all my data to my new machine, I shared the folders I used to share, and I connected from my laptop to the newly shared folders. This setup is working, but it’s been a huge hassle. I’ve decided to use MigoSync from www.migosoftware.com and it lets me share all of my files between devices without any real setup.

Question: I LOST my laptop with ALL my data and recent contacts! On realization, I felt like I lost my life because my mobile hard disk, cell phone, organizer and laptop were in a bag I left in a cab the other day. What do people use to back there lifes data up quickly and easily? I need something easy else I won’t use it.

I had the same thing happen to me last year on my vacation. I left my backpack on a bus and lost everything. I was lucky because I had my desktop, emails and contacts synchronized onto a USB drive. I use MigoSync from www.migosoftware.com . It synchronizes almost anything and doesn’t cost much. The cool thing about it is that I can access my desktop, email accounts and personal settings securely on any computer I plug the USB drive into.
