or We now have one small part of the answer. Access developed a new version of Garnet with a twist: it only runs on Nokia's N series of internet tablets. The release is actually a "virtual machine" operating system that allows users to run Palm OS programs such as googlemaps, Pocket tunes, Kinoma and others on Nokia's Linux devices.
The software is in Beta and is a free download from the Access website. So any mytreo.net users out there with a N770, 800 or 810 should start downloading and report your findings on the forum.
I don't know quite what this means for owners of existing Palm OS devices. But it's good to see signs that the aging operating system isn't dead and buried quite yet.

The Garnet VM is also available to PalmOS developers via the Access web site but it's kinda tricky to get running and requires Linux. They suggest using a VMWare Debian environment for windows users.

from the screen shots and video over at palminfocenter i wonder why anyone would use the VM machine. The simulator doesnt even look like its full screen and it centered on the screen. this would make it really hard to see and move around the small screen. am i wrong about this?
i think if styletap can get their emulator working on the Nokia then it would be better option.

how bout a more stable and robust OS for the treo? i would like to see my 700p process faster and an internet browser that doesn't work as if it was plugged into a wall socket at dial up speed.

hi guys. glad to see the community thriving!
this is the first time i've logged in in a very long while. the reason for my visit is to download some palm os games for my nokia n800 that now runs the garnet virtual environment. a bit of nostalgia :) i hope that the palm os can grow and be better integrated on these new linux devices... ARE YOU LISTENING PALM???

Smiley, my understanding is that Garnet can run vertically (as in the screenshot you saw) or horizontally (in which case it fills the entire screen).
Vertically is arguably better on an 810 with a slide-out keyboard; otherwise, you're typing on a sideways screen. Horizontally is much better for screen resolution, and is the obvious choice on an 800 or 770.
Hope this helps.
