We believe the allegedly leaked Treo 800w image circulating the blogosphere today (shown here) may be a fake. The image is blurry and looks like it has been stretched. We believe it may be a photoshopped compilation of existing Palm devices.

That said, rumors at the CTIA Wireless convention in San Francisco this week - including not very subtle hints by reliable sources - support the belief that a new very high end Windows Mobile Treo is in fact in the works. The device may have more memory, a GPS antenna (or triangulated GPS) and built-in WiFi, as well as never before seen Palm enhancements to the Windows Mobile 6 platform, including improved navigation and web browsing capabilities.

Palm relies on HTC to manufacturer some of its Windows Mobile enabled devices. At the same time, HTC also competes with Palm in the smartphone market, including with Windows Mobile enabled devices with GPS and WiFi, such as the TyTn II. The most logical reason for Palm to continue its relationship with HTC despite the competition is because it may allow Palm to move very quickly with respect to high end hardware features.

We would love to see a convergence of HTC hardware specifications with the Palm Treo's absolutely unparalleled usability and form factor.

It has to be that the Garnet replacement is a money pit. I'm sure that's why it was never marketed. Garnet, as I understand it, in it's current Treo configuration will not support WiFi.

The poster on TC.c said the image "was from a ppt presentation." Most likely it was a monitor-resolution screen grab. So, the low resolution isn't an issue.

I can't say why it's stretched, but it's obviously not the 3x2 aspect ratio of a QVGA screen that most other WM devices, including the 500v, have.

Here's that post's link -

2008 is coming, palm. Therefore...
- All incarnations of the Treo 800 (P or W) must come with a fully functional built in wifi.
- It's bluetooth should be refined and reliable. - It must have a fully functional and adaptable web browser.
- It should have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
- Finally, ship with a hotsync cable that has a life longer than a year.

Wonder if I will have to continually do a hard reset on the new 800w like I do now with my 700w - kind of really hate my windows based TREO.

Going back to my older Palm TREO.

I'd love to be able to end a call when I press hang up.

I'd love it to exit the browser when I press menu.

I'd be grateful if it did not soft reboot automatically 3-4 times/day.

I'd like tasks, contacts and calendar to link together.

I'd like voice dialing with my bluetooth headset.

I like how everytime an image like this comes out whether it's real or close to real the articles on the treo sites always read something like: Rumors are it may have wifi, gps, brew coffee for you in the morning, etc. Fact is time after time until offical details come out we often don't know what's new. I think it starts more palm bashing than anything. Many ranted about the centro was a joke what are they thinking. Now it appears people are falling in love with it.
Also think of it u have bluetooth, gps, cell, wifi all switched on. I think shes gonna drink some juice at that point. Also with the ever evolving mobile data networks like EVDO I get all I need out of them.
Just my opinion.

To F18BEN re: Sprint being available internationally.

You need to understand that Sprint uses CDMA technology and the rest of the world uses GSM. Hence, Sprint can never be available internationally, unless they switch to GSM networks. Better to stick with T-Mobile or Cingular.
