Slimmer! Palm Treo 500 coming September 12
According to an image released by The Phone House, a retailer in The Netherlands, the new Treo smartphone that is being officially launched in Europe this Wednesday will be called Treo 500.

Although the model number suggests a several year fall back in functionality to days prior to the Treo 600, rumored specifications indicate otherwise. The Treo 500 is expected to have a 2 megapixel camera, 240×320 screen, 150 megabytes of memory and 3G wireless data connectivity.
The Treo 500 is expected to run Windows Mobile 6 Standard Edition and have a MicroSD expansion slot. Like many competing models, such as Blackjack, Sidekick, Dash and Q, the device may not have a touchscreen. There are conflicting reports as to whether it will pack UMTS.
These substantial hardware improvements are being jammed into a tiny form factor. At 16mm, the Treo 500 is said to be 6mm (or about 25%) thinner than the Treo 750, the smallest Treo smartphone currently in production. The other dimensions are 61mm wide and 110mm tall.
More to come when Palm releases the device this week!

That’s what I like to see, a step forward with the 2mp camera and thinner body. Please add wifi too and a lot of Palm supporters will be happy : )
Damn! What’s with all the new Treos coming out with Windows Mobile.
I’ll stick with my trusted (and stable) Treo 650 thanks!
Dump Windows, Palm - go back to your strength…
Thats A LOT OF memory for a Treo. Nice to see.
Stupid branding in multiple ways. One is the aforementioned 500 model number, perceived as a step back from the 700 models of today. Secondly, why would Palm launch a new line in the Centro, and then have it share a very similar body with that of the Treo 500? Makes no sense.
The Centro was teased at a Sprint event. Beyond that, Palm has mentioned the name, but I don’t recall any official confirmations about what exactly the Centro is.
Labeling it the 500v is a bit weird, but a quick glance at the 500’s specs -

- tells you it’s more advanced in many categories, if not all of them.
