Press Release: SimulScribe, the super simple voicemail service for the Treo (recommended by mytreo.net) that transcribes voice messages into text and delivers it by email, just launched a new application that beats Apple iPhones to visual voicemail.

SimulSays “visually” displays users “voicemail” in a separate application on the menu interface. SimulSays enables users to instantly select which voice message to play back with a simple scroll and click on the handset, they never have dial in. It's a free download already available for BlackBerry Pearl and 8800 owners that is in closed beta and coming in June for Treo smartphones.

SimulSays sends users a notification any time they receive a message, lets them check audio or text (if you add the SimulScribe transcription service) versions of those messages directly in the application, and even lets users call the sender back with one click or reply using SMS or Email if the message is from someone in their address book. SimulScribe’s voicemail-to-text service is currently available, works on all U.S. wireless networks and performs best when used on email enabled smart phones.

visual voice mail? speech to text? sounds the same to me. I think its good that its someone trying to show mac that sometimes its best to stick with the basics.

i dont think you know what visual voicemail is. on the iphone you can choose which voicemail you want to hear through a menu on the phone. the voicemails are labeled with the name of the person that called. much better than cycling through the conventional voicemail system. simulscibe isnt doing anything close to what the iphone is doing.

Y'all aren't reading carefully. SimulScribe is one product, SimulSays is another. SimulSays IS visual voicemail, which is different, but optionally integrated, with SimulScribe, which is the voicemail transcription.

What does bum me out is that it's now July, and no word of a Treo version on the SimulSays site; I just e-mailed tech support to inquire on the progress with this, as the other similar services I've found don't work with the Treo or aren't publically available. (CallWave doesn't have a mobile interface, aside from using it via e-mail, which isn't the same; GrandCentral has a mobile version, but you need an invite to try it now that Google owns them, at least until the semi-private beta is over.)
