Images surfaced this week purportedly of an upcoming Palm OS Treo 755p. The device appears with a white Sprint logo on a navy blue rubberized outer shell. It’s pictured with the Palm operating system, and said to support EVDO high speed data transfer rates. Sprints’ EVDO network has the fastest data transfer rates of any mobile network in the United States.

Recently Palm has seen a substantial increase in its sell through rate to consumers of Treo smartphones. The company has done a great job of delivering cost effective and attractive devices to cellular service providers, which have supported Palm with large scale marketing campaigns.

This device will likely replace the Treo 700p in Sprint’s product portfolio. Because the 755p form factor differs from that of the 700p — the 755p is smaller and has an internal antenna, Sprint customers who upgrade may have to replace some accessories, such as cases and extended batteries. The form factor of the 755p appears similar to those of the Treo 680 and Treo 750 offered by Cingular.

  1. I’d love to see a GSM version of this phone.

  2. In the past sprint has always been the last to get something new, No one else has had. I will tell all, I am waiting on this phone to come out. Sprint don’t let me down.
Can I have my cake and eat it to?

  3. Ho-hum. I’m too busy enjoying my fabulously refreshed 700p with the new firmware that finally came out at the “end of Q1 2007.” It’s great to finally be able to rely on bluetooth pairing, the NVFS file system is as snappy as the 650’s, and the bugfixes on all the PIMs and the updated Docs to Go really make the $650.00 investment worthwhile.

    Aw he11…. it’s April 1st. We’re just fools.

  4. If they replace the 700p with the 755p and don’t release the 700p firmware update, I’ll be unimpressed.

Maybe the new firmware “available at the end of Q1 2007″ will be available soon, but only in a 755p?

  5. hopefully this is true and not an april fool’s joke. I am having a blast with the 700p and would love to get my hands on the 755p.

  6. ill be f!@#ing pissed if they dont fix 700p first!

  7. What about 755w that use WM6? I rather have that. How much longer?

  9. I swear I”m f’n retarded… My 700p started acting up bad today and I come online and I’m reminded about the 755.. I NEED IT!

the stupid 700 keeps reseting everytime I press the Phone Key or going back to the Menu when I try to enter from Phone Icon in the Main menu

  10. So, is the firmware for the 700p firmware update available? I’m confused by the above posting. Joad makes it sound like it has been released and has it but Chris makes it sound like it has not been released and is still up in the air. Someone please clear up my confusion!!! Please post link to new firmware if it is available.

    Thanks!

  13. The firmware is NOT yet available but will be soon. It will be called palm755.zip! I hate to be a pessimist but I think we 700p owners should lobby to get a refund for the purchase price we paid on the 700p less a monthly figure (say 5 bucks or so) to apply to the 755p. I think the fact that they tried to make this phone dual platform (p, w, later wx) is the source of the problem. Note, they stopped selling the w altogether and the 700p has been discounted to $199.00. The wx seems to be getting all the new, neat features working with it. Meanwhile, I have noticed that my phone is getting quirkier and quirkier by the day. Can anyone say “class action”.

Sorry you didn’t catch my drift - I was being ironic, sarcastic, and/or something like that. Take it as a joke, there’s no known 700p firmware released as of this post.

  15. I don’t know what all the bichin’ is about. I loved my 650 and love my 700p even more. I for one am quite happy with my 700p and don’t plan on upgrading soon, if ever. I love the faster speed of the 700p and have had about as many problems with it as I did the 650. (Not many, and easily solved). I guess some folks will never be happy with the current technology and will always want the grass that be greener.

  16. The 700p is great in comparison to the 650. I personally had 5 or 6 different 650 models in a period of 1 year thats to show how crappy that phone was. Everyone I know had multiple problems with the 650. Sprint upgraded me to the 700p for FREE. I think the deal with the 755 will be no better until Palm actually start to be really concerned about the problems that these phones are having. If a class action law suit was to be file then you hit there where it counts MONEY TALKS EVERYTIME. I think I’ll stick with the 700p it cost too much to continually have to purchase new software due to the changes that are made everytime they come out with a different model.

  17. What is the problem with the 700p. I have the 650 and thinking about upgrading. But if the the 700p has a firmware problem I may wait. I have had the same 650 for over 2 years with no problem. I think I had to reset it 3 times for minor problems.. love my 650…..

  18. Can someone help. I’m waiting 1 more month to buy a PDA, 700p. I hear the hype about the 755p. Should I wait or just buy the 700p. It would be my 1st smart phone.

  20. I’m a Sprint employee and it’s not a rumor in fact the date is currently set for 05/15 considering status of beta tests etc.

  23. Can I buy the sprint 755p phone and use Verizon as my provider? What provider is better?

  24. I currently have the 650 on the Sprint Network. I have had it about 1.5 years. This phone frustrated me so much and cost me so many problems at work with lost data as a result of the hard resetting issues. I later found out it was due to “Third Party” software. I removed all of the 3rd party software and the phone works like a dream now, more reliable now but not as fun to play with. It is time for an upgrade, any suggestions on purchasing the 700p or should I wait for this 755p?

  26. Any comments on the above questions?

  27. According to the “knowledgeable” folks working in the Palm stores, they swear up and down this phone will NOT be coming out - they are aware of the rumors. “next device” is somewhere end of year.

You know, I wouldn’t mind if they’d feign ignorance or say they can’t comment… but when they straightforward LIE to customers it’s a bit insulting. Sprint’s lists are posted all over the place, pictures of the device everywhere, vendors offering them as prizes when released…. and yet Palm’s employees are told to tell their customers complete B.S. to their faces.

Sure, we have self-identified as stupid by purchasing their devices over and over… but why rub it in?

  28. Still no flash for the camera? What version of palm will it have? Hopefully something higher than 5.2. Especially since my t650 is running v5.4

  29. i just got a free upgrade to a 700p in the middle of December, and now that i see this 755p on the palm website and im wondering whats the advantage of upgrading? google maps which i already have?
