Posted on March 28th, 2007 by John Reno
At the CTIA Wireless in Orlando this week, mytreo.net caught up with Niels Steenstrup, Head of Marketing for i-mate. In a video recorded live, Niels introduced us to the complete line of Windows Mobile enabled smartphones from i-mate available now and coming to market shortly.

How do you record a video anything other than “live”?
I am sorry but iMate products are far superior to Palm and have been for at least 2 years. So iMate is no longer challenging Palm.
I love my Palm Treo 650, and I’m well aware that it is not ‘cutting edge’. People can list Palm’s many failing in business, the areas where the Treo Palm OS based range of smartphones laggs somewhat considerably behind other manufacturers and how they see other devices as better. However for me my Treo 650 triumphs over many other smartphones due to the fact that it doesn’t run Microsoft. If I wanted Windows Mobile in any flavor I wouldn’t own a Treo 650. Yes the Palm OS is outdated, but when it comes to a mature OS for my business needs it wins hands down.
Other considerations I took in to account before buying the Treo is just the right size, fitting comfortably in my hand. The screen is neither to large or to small and has a good resolution. Its keyboard is great, before I had the 650 I rarely used to send texts, now I find it an easy and essential tool to utilize.
If Palm folds, or gets bought out (again) and drops the Palm OS all together then I’ll be looking for a Symbian or RIM based device, anything but Windows. Until that time comes I’ll continue with the 650 until the 680 becomes more available and affordable here in the UK.
I love my Treo 700p and use it extensively for many thing besides being a phone and an organizer. I watch videos from Google Video, listen to podcast and streaming internet radio, takes pictures, read email and RSS feeds, and post to my blog. I also earn my living with company supplied software that only runs on the Palm OS.
This concerns me greatly because the future of the Palm OS in in jeopardy and the company has bet the farm on that OS and I believe they have been working on a Windows Mobile alternative. I can only hope that Palm survives and they come out with a reworked Palm OS 6.0 that truly improves on Garnet. I think something that is Linux based may be the way to go.
Imate may have a great line up of phones but my experience with their customer service has been horrible. I sent it in for repair in November and have followed a trail from Florida to Dubai the last 4 months trying to find out if I would ever get it back.
In the meantime, I went back to Palm and purchased the 750.
