I'd really like to know how this thing works, and if it hast any effect on the device?
I mean, I know a bit about Physics and if this thing is emitting radiation what influence does it have on the memory or other components of the device?
If loading with this snug thingy has no sideeffect on my treo or iPod or else, I will certainly buy one!

It looks like they have some kind of sleeve that fits over the phones with contacts on the back.

Inductive Chargers have been around for a while, your electric toothbrush for example. Recently brought to electronic devices such as cell phones, cameras, and other devices that have come around in the past year or so. wiki for all you how are interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductive_charging

Hey Tali,

That's a good idea too. A charger where there is recharging contacts on the back of the phone that you can place on a charging pad would be good to. I wouldn't have to plug in anything, just set it on a pad.

Do they make anything like that?

arne_anka says:

so, what's the big fuss about?
my toothbrush does that for years now -- and with far less space required.

btw: why is there no frame or symbol saying something like "you need the xyz plugin to view this"? all i get is a static picture and whitespace.
well, i'm used to bad, non-standard webdesign, so i had a look into the source ...

There was another company at CES that said they were manufacturing a similar product, but that it's not quite ready yet. They spoke rather jealously of WildCharger, saying it was the first working demo, but wouldn't necessarily be the first to market. My bet is that we see some pretty imaginative applications for inductive charging come out of Asia in the next couple of years, as it's implemented for mobile devices.

Betcha my charging/hotsynch cable was cheaper and will probably last longer. Maybe a cool idea for a family w/a bunch of phones.

ZortZ says:

So does this use inductive charging or is it a physical contact charger? If it's inductive, it could just use a little adapter which plugs into the bottom of the phone and hooks the inductive charge receiver to the normal charging socket (or USB socket for phones that charge via USB). If it's a physical contact deal, it'd need to have some sort of sleeve or plate that sticks to the back of the phone and hooks to the charging port with a cable. The latter would be far less cool than the former, IMHO.

I wander if you have to have a special battery for this to work.
