Treo Software Updates from Palm

Palm contacted us recently and asked that we share with the community three software updates. Palm has released a fix for a daylight savings time change issue, which could affect some Treo owners. There is an update for Outlook 2007 users that improves hotsync operation. Lastly, Palm released an update of Palm Desktop and Hotsync Manager that allows them to work with Microsoft’s new Windows Vista operating system.

New Daylight Saving Time Changes

Beginning in 2007, Daylight Saving Time starts on the second Sunday in March (March 11, 2007), and changes back to standard time on the first Sunday in November (November 4, 2007). This is a change from the current start/end date that is built into some Palm devices.

Palm devices, both smartphones and handhelds, need to be updated so that they reflect the correct time when the new DST changes take effect. Without the Daylight Saving Time Updates, calendar events and email messages will indicate an hour off the actual time in locations that observe DST.

Outlook 2007 Update for Palm OS Devices

If you use Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 on Windows XP or Windows Vista, you’ll need this update to perform HotSync operations with Outlook’s Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes, as well as optional non-wireless Email sync.

Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager compatibility with Windows Vista

Palm Desktop versions 4.1.4e and 4.2 will install on Windows Vista and will synchronize Personal Information Manager (PIM) items including Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos.

Other versions of Palm Desktop have not been tested with Windows Vista. You may be able to install and use other versions, but we cannot provide technical support for these installations.

  1. Is anyone else getting an error when trying to download the DST fix?

  2. Well, this is all well and good, BUT, where the hell is the Tro 700p update Palm? You are going to lose me soon!!!!!! I’m sick f this BS, crappy BT, etc. DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Faslane out and Pi**ed Off!!!

  3. I think “faslane” needs to stop holding back and REALLY express how we all feel about what is quickly approaching a YEAR without any support on the 700p…

Maybe Palm figures by screwing the PalmOS customers over and over they’ll get us to buy WinceMob devices. Even *IF* I was forced to migrate to that operating system, I’ll think looooong and hard before giving Palm another dime (much less $700.00) of my money for one of their devices. For PalmOS phones - Palm is the only game in town. For WinceMob… they are just one in a pool of many manufacturers, and the resentment they are building up by their miserable support of the 600, 650 and 700p will only drive the “Palm faithful” to look for another company that stands behind their product and customers. As Palm USED to do.

  4. hahaha, okay, okay Joad, so I went off a bit. I was in a foul mood that day, too much work and not enought time, but Damn Palm, really wtf?

    Faslane Out!

I’m dedicated, but you are losing my slowly…..beginning to “mental shop” Lots of goodies out there these days….

  5. Jmorlock, I was able to follow the over-the-air instructions without a glitch. It downloaded to my 700p and I ran the update. No problems with either process.

I’m also a little confused by the other posts here. There is a DST fix for the 700p and all the other updates seem to apply to the 700p as well, so what support are you expecting and not getting?
