reporting for mytreo.net and msmobiles.com.

On Thursday at the CES convention in Las Vegas, mytreo.net interviewed management of Seamless WiFi, Inc. about their new smartphone, the S-XGen. What makes it special? The 520 megahertz processor, 20 gigabyte hard disk, integrated WiFi and a full-sized fold-out qwerty keyboard, for starters. The device also comes with built-in gaming controls and a 4.25 inch TFT 470 x 270 resolution screen.

In this reviewer's opinion, the S-XGen is no Treo killer. It's too large and heavy to fit into your pocket. It lacks one-handed navigation. The keyboard must be unfolded and rested on a table for use. You cannot put the phone up to your head, because the S-XGen is designed to work exclusively with a Bluetooth headset for calling. However, remarkable hardware specifications and unique form factor make this massively powerful smartphone a fascinating product to contemplate:

  • Processor: Intel® PXA 270 Xscale™ - Speed : 520 MHz
  • System Memory: Hard Drive 20GB / 128MB SDRAM MMC Card with spring socket

Though I don't care much for this phone, nor the Iphone (need a qwerty keyboard or else it'll be a bitch to use). But I do love the fact that the guantlet has been dropped. I can't wait to see what Treo does to compete against the multi-gig, no B.S. about holding back wifi, large screen, and all of the other features that should have been released sooner. The Treo 1000 better be a replacement for my desktop...

Treo 1000 specs just released: 1 hour battery life, no microphone, 3 antennas, hardware buttons on back (and functions moved around, of course), lag time improved to several minutes between applications, and a whopping 2MB of internal memory. Free 1GB SD card if that is a problem for you...

Colligan's right - Apple's gotta be shaking in their boots right now.

I must say that your list of the ought to be, new Treo 1000 specs caught me by total surprise. Your comments literally sent me into an almost painful two minute hysterical laugh.

Cheers and carry on!
