680cam_camupd.gif

Palm contacted us to inform the community that a Treo 680 software update has been posted. According to management, the Treo 680 can experience reduced battery life when the camera is used. The camera may continue to draw power from the battery when the device is in standby mode. Treo 680 users should install the Treo 680 Camera Update to address this issue.

Download and installation instructions can be found at http://www.palm.com/680cameraupdate.

  1. this is great…i was able to do it OTA in less than 5 minutes…i’m glad Palm was able to recognize this and provide a solution to it..

  2. Fix #1, Next fix will hopefully cover the bluetooth connection issues.

  3. I did the update OTA as well. Very easy and very fast to install! Thanks Palm!

  4. NOW…..hoa about a 700P (which came out first) update to fix the many more bugs???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
    Get with it Palm!

  5. Yea exactly, what happens to those of us who bought the released first more expensive 700p? Talk about frustration geez!!!!!

  6. whats this palm finally acknowledging that some of us don’t run windows/Mac Os!!! glad the updates are getting sorted before i get my 680

  7. What this apparently means is that the GSM carriers don’t have much of a testing system. The reason Palm gave for the anticipated 9 months delay (presently at 7 months) before release of a 700p firmware addressing some of the problems like bluetooth, camera, etc. is that the “carriers” were delaying because every fix is run through exhaustive testing.

The 680 gets fixes within a month, hence Palm is saying those carriers don’t seem to care WHAT goes on their network, right?

  8. Different carriers have different policies - dunno, perhaps Cingular has less red tape for patches than Verizon. Or perhaps Palm, having been burned, put something in the 680 exclusive terms w/ Cingular that let’s them make updates directly.

At any rate, the patch itself is great. I have noticed a nice improvement. Thank you Palm for releasing the patch!!

I have to wonder, however, how many 680 owners will know how to get it or even that it exists. Supposedly the 680 is targetted for the masses, and the masses don’t visit sites like mytreo.net, or even ever install anything on their phone. Maybe Palm should add a “Check for Updates” program to all future ROMs that does an OTA updates of patches… sorta like their slick new Treo Manual program updates itself.

  9. The 680 don’t have “voice tags” on hands-free? In 650, have.

    thx

  10. Having trouble with bluetooth on 680, is there a Palm OS update or a bluetooth update anywhere?

    Any help please.
