Abrupt End to Palm Pays Back Program

palmpaysback.gif

In an email today to participants, Palm announced the end of the Palm Pays Back Program, bringing to a close the long running marketing initiative. Participants will be able to earn points through November 30 and redeem them through December 31.

Much like a frequent flier miles program, the Palm Pays Back Program was designed to provide customers with points for purchases on qualifying products on palm.com, which could later be redeemed for rewards from Palm and its points partners, such as Amazon.com and Starbucks.

In our view rewards programs more aptly apply to commodity goods, such as credit cards, gasoline and airline tickets. We don’t see the model applying as well to specialty buys, such as phones or personal digital assistants. We were not surprised to see Palm’s program go.

For members looking for a great way to fill the void, we humbly recommend our Discount Club instead.

  1. Well…. that’s “payback” for our help….

  2. Hello,
I have a 700p with Verizon. I attempt to connect to websites that offer video at 180 Kbits/sec but the phone always says “insufficient bandwidth”. How do I confirm what my actuall connection speed is? I doubt that I come close to he idealized 400-700 Kbits/sec.
    Thanks
