The ban of electronics on U.S and U.K airliners has been lifted.

According to the Federal Aviation Agency and UK sources, the ban on electronics on airplanes has been lifted from both countries, although liquids and gels are still banned on both U.K and U.S flights. While the ban has been lifted, security remains high, and heightened security measures at airports and other public transportation hubs means traveling with electronic devices has become a little more difficult. There are however, steps that one can take to insure a pleasant experience when traveling with electronic devices such as the Treo.

  1. The first rule of traveling with electronics is “know the rules.” With security measures changing on a regular basis, it is important to know what you can and cannot carry on an airplane, train or other form of mass transportation. Before leaving for the airport, check the Federal Aviation Agency’s website for a list of items that can and cannot be carried on an airplane. See also the British Airport Authority website for latest updates for traveling to and from the UK.
  2. Make sure the batteries are charged on any device you plan to carry on to an airplane. Often, security screeners will ask passengers to turn on a device to insure that it is not a fake.
  3. When traveling with electronics be sure that the device’s carrying case is easy to remove. Screeners will often want to inspect the device without the case.
  4. It is also important to know how to remove the battery from your electronic devices. Sometimes, screeners will want to see inside all compartment on a device such as drive bays and battery compartments.

  6. Know how to put the device in airplane mode. A great application for the Treo is SimNotify which exchanges your standard wallpaper with an Airplane Safe image allowing security screeners to easily identify that the Treo is safe for air travel.
  7. Backup and insure your device! While travelers should have no trouble boarding with their Treo, it is better to be safe. In the event that you must check your Treo with your luggage, it is advised to have it backed up and insured in case the Treo is lost or damaged.

In conclusion, I hope you find these tips to be useful when traveling with the Treo or other electronic device. Be sure to check with the relevant agencies before setting off on your travel. Enjoy your journey.
