This news via PC World.

Yesterday, Sprint announced its pricing plans for the Treo 700p. Today, Verizon Wireless countered with an arguably slightly better deal for new customers willing to make a two-year commitment. Verizon plans to offer the Treo 700p “within the next few weeks” for $399.99 with a two year voice & data plan.

Sprint, which will be the first to offer the Treo 700p by the end of this month, is offering the device for $549.99 with a one-year plan and $499.99 with a two-year contract. Sprint sweetens the deal by promising a $100 service credit to customers agreeing to a 2-year contract. But the credit is applied when the phone is activated, and customers must pay $499.99 up front.

  1. Ummmm, yeah… I seem to recall Verizon has always undercut Sprint on the hardware by a few bucks with a contract.

Verizon makes back that $50 or so many times over with their horrendous voice and data rates compared to Sprint. The TCO over a couple years is quite substantial - though Sprint is starting to creep upwards quickly with their EVDO rates - making Verizon possibly worth another look depending on their coverage in your area.

  2. of course the real question is how long do we have to wait for the no camera version.

drives me crazy. I would think a lot of people that buy these expensive phones have jobs or workout at gyms that do not allow cameras.

  3. Really? I currently have a verizon T600 with unlimited data. It costs $40 for the voice, $50 for the data. Now they want to sell me the new one for $80 for Voice and Data but add another $15 if I want to use it as a modem. THAT SUCKS. Almost makes me want to switch to Sprint and use the $15 data plan. Sprint also (so far) has not announced any plans to charge extra for the DUN stuff. I love my verizon service but I hate being nicked & Dimed to death!!!!

  5. 700P is a big NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    700p vs 700w –> 700w wins! why 2 main big reason
    1 : WIFI
    2 : voip (SKYPE)
get 700w +EVDO+skype(now free to us and canda) + unlimited datae plan = you rule phone companys………………………………….
i love my plam 650 but its time to say good by
WIFI and VOIP IS THE FUTURE!!!!

  6. OK - had 700w for a week. Using the Windows OS is like have a new screw drilled into your had every ten minutes! What a miserable system.

Now let’s talk about WiFi on a tiny screen. Had the TungstenC years ago. Yea - I even had VoIP with it. I could use WiFi on my Treo is at home (why bother - I’ll use a real computer), at work (see last statement) or I can hunt and peck for a free access point somewhere. Give me a break – I have better things to do with my time. That’s what EVDO is for - anytime / anywhere. I currently use EVDO on my laptop and it screams! Some don’t believe that I’m not connected to DSL.

Back to the small screen thing. How much surfing can you really do on a screen that’s smaller than a credit card? Gee - this sounds like fun…. “Hey …. check out the great graphics on my 320 x 320 screen!? I currently have the 650, pay too much to VZW for a Data plan but use it 24/7 for Email (using Chatter - awesome program) and couldn’t live without it. But really - you won’t use WiFi unless you’re sitting on your couch eating a bag of chips and too lazy to get up and look at a real computer.

Now - VoIP. Have that too. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Most calls come in but not all calls go out. Except in the corporate arena (use it at work - does just fine there), VoIP isn’t ready to replace the phone company. It’s getting there but still 5 or so years away.

Will get the 700P the day it comes out! Want EVDO and more memory.

  7. Plus 60MB of available memory is alot more for Palm users vs. 60MB available for WM users.

  8. I seem to remember that Telus has posted a price of $99.00 with a contract. That is a bit less in US$ for this week, next week it will probably be more US$ as the “Georgie” takes another value plunge.

If you want more info check out Telusmobility.com (it is for the 650) But price wise there is value.

If we stick to the price comparison issue here we will be more focused, leave the 700 P W bashing to other forums.

Hey moderator, get with it. I edited a whole bunch of stuff about Verizon and the Telcos in the US, just sticking with the price comparison.
