Sources close to mytreo.net have informed us that a company named Get Mobile Solutions, which is partnered with Go Treo Software, Inc., has acquired the exclusive rights to develop and market LauncherX. As veteran forum members know, LauncherX was the premier Palm OS launcher for the Treo 600, and competed head to head with ZLauncher and Power Run for the affection of the community. Sadly, the author of LauncherX passed away in 2005; and, while the program was upgraded to work on the Treo 650, it lost favor for lack of additional development. (Until now!)

The new version of LauncherX will be available exclusively on mytreo.net in a few weeks. Get it here first!

After so long without an update from Launcher X I've just moved over to Zlauncher and paid my bucks.

For me it's a matter of too late, which I'm sure would be the same with many Treo users.

This is great news. Despite LX's hiatus in ongoing development, I have stuck by the trusty GUI for years now

I now run it on a Treo 650, but have previously used it on a Clie and Vx.

I still recommend LX to all 650 owners I know and have beamed/bluetoothed many trial versions. (I carry a copy of the 1.2B on my SD card, just for that purpose.

In fact, with LX, Butler & Phone Technician (Hobbyist Software) you have all the features that Palm missed in the core OS.

I did not know that the developer had passed away. my condolences to his family. I really enjoyed his software, and used it till I bought a PalmT|X. I will be glad to use it again when it is stable on the T|X.

This is wonderful news, have used all the versions of this since the original Launcher, and just when it hit stride the (present) developer died.

The 5-way navigator was hacked for the Treo 650, but it really could use bluetooth, GUI improvements and other updates. Great that someone has picked it back up again.

I tried Zlauncher, and although it has a *LOT* of options (almost too many) it just seems kludgy (the kind of feel you get from Java applications), especially on the 320x320 screen of the Treos. LauncherX is snappy, simpler, and retro. Hope they do serious testing on the Treo to optimize it for that device.

just wanted to let you all know the 1.2B does support teh 650 5 way navigator AND it recognizes bluetooth. Use the Mail (send) icon, it lists all the files on your device or card (user slelects) and will beam, SMS, email or BT files to otehr recipients.

This has been out there for a long time and I applaud the simplicity of LX. Hopefully it will stay that way. I suspect most new features will be to officially support teh 650 and the new 700P, maybe some GUI enhancements. It doesnt need much.

I still use Launcher X on my 650. While it is not optimized for the 650, it still provides easy and quick access to applications, particularlyl those used most frequently. An optimized version would be, well, optimal.

Tonyshep says:

Great news. It works well on the Treo 650 and I ahve used this since it first came onto the market. It's less of a memory hog than most others and way simpler to operate. I have tried XLauncher and Mega Launcher, but I keep returning to LauncherX.

JEMShoe says:

It works with the 5way but the center button does not activate the alerts (asterisk icon).

I found a way around that but it requires two hands:

1) Hold down option button and use 5w.left to navigate to the tools gadget. Still holding the option button, press and hold the center button.

YeeHaa! I have been using LX for years and currently use it on my 650. i have tried other launchers since and have not found anything that works as well without crashing my 650. i can't wait for the update!

I use LauncherX on my T|X thanks to a fixed prc called 112b that circulates on the web. Sorry, but I cannot find the link back...

bbmitch- I am using 1.1.2b and don't seem to have the bluetooth option you mention. Drag to mail icon sends mail (actually, now that I've messed with it it flashes "Please Wait" and does nothing.
