Review of E-Grips for the Treo 650

E-Grips: How do I love thee, let me count the ways.

I love the way you adhere to my Treo 650
without fear of accidental peeling.
I love the way your colour matches
silver and shining.

I love how you make me feel secure
in the palm of my hand.
I love your texture, soft and smooth,
with a rubbery give.

I love how I can put my Treo 650 down
on any surface without fearing it will slide off.
I love how you’re substantial,
yet still thin enough to fit under most cases including my Bun-J.

I love how you totally cover
the sides and back of my Treo 650.
I love how easy you are to clean
and how cat hair doesn’t stick to you.

I love less how I managed to tear you
when first trying to fit you properly.
I love, not so much, the almost but not perfect fit
and the way I had to use scissors to trim a bit off the back piece.

I love you, E-grips
and I can’t imagine being without you.
I love you almost as much as
I love my Treo 650.

I love how you come two to a package
so I won’t ever have to be without you.
I love how you are available
at the mtdn store.

  1. I have these on my Treo 650, I like the theory here but the application is flawed, they peel off within the first three weeks and I did prep my device first. In fact it was just out of the box, I prepped the unit put on the egrips and let the device sit for two days before I even programmed it. (That will not be the case for most people) I just had some down time and figured I would use my old phone and let the egrips take hold. I have bought two sets and had the same results. I actually super glued them to my Treo650, that works and I have not had any problem since then, you need to read the labels on the super glue though, some will eat through plastic. I used Instant Krazy Glue “Brush on” just incase you feel like making them permanent.

I did contact egrips and let them know of the problem they didn’t seem to care and suggested I buy another set (SHOCK) this irritated me.

  2. I put the e-grips on my Treo 650 and they have been flawless. I only use the battery cover grip as the rest are incompatible with my holster. It provide enough grip to keep the treo from sliding on the dash in those rare ocassions that I put it there.

  3. I have also had problems with the Egrip. They peal very Quick. It is a defect. The glue sticks great but the clear coat on top seperates. I won’t buy anymore untill they can fix it. Customer Service is pathetic. It is a shame for a product with such great potential.

  4. I purchased Egrips for my Treo 650. I’ve been having them on for over a month, and they have not peeled, or failed in any way. I used the alcohol wipes on my treo to ensure a maximum clean surface, and after about a day or so, they really started to stick tightly onto my device.

I use these with a leather case and still no problems. It fits snug, and I have to give it an extra yank to get it in or out, but that doesn’t really bother me, and has not peeled the egrips off.. minus a small corner that peeled when I tried to slide my 650 into a case less than 20 minutes after putting the Egrips on. I had to correct it by using a razor blade and cutting the peeled end (very small amount). That has resolved that issue entirely.

This thing can sit on nearly any surface, even with an incline and stay intact, though common sense tells you that you probably wouldn’t want to leave your $350 dollar device sitting anywhere on an enclined plane, Egrip or not. But it can be done.

It improves your ability to use the device for typing applications, because improved gripping. It also feels comfortable in your hand. The 650 is one slick beast, and on a few occasions actually slipped right out of my hand (granted not at any real distance or on any surface that even knicked the machine). The egrips have rectified that issue.

So there you have it: a complete user assestment of the Egrip product. By the way, I use the clear version.

  5. I’ve looked around in retail stores for these “Treo” version ones with no luck. No problems finding the ipod ones or the generic ones. Maybe when the Wince Treo comes out the accessory market will thrive.

Have been using the generic egrips on Treos for a couple years, they stick pretty well but eventually wear down from entering and leaving my case. These are made from the same materials, so I’d expect to need to buy a new set every 6 months (or more if I have another string of bad Treo hardware).

  6. I’ve used these eGrips for my 650 since April 2005. I haven’t replaced them since.

The outer layer is slowly peeling, but I just cut the peeled portions out with a nail clipper. The adhesive on the Treo is pretty strong so I have no need to replace them yet.

I don’t use any other other case and just put my Treo 650 with the eGrips skin in my jeans / pants pocket. I highly recommend eGrips to all Treo owners who do not want the bulk of an additional case.

  7. I have an E-Grip for my Treo and I must say that it works quite well. I put it on after using my Treo for several days and let it sit for about a day after I put on the E-Grip. It is very unfortunate that the grips do not stick to everyone’s Treo though.

  8. hmmmmm…..a Poem…written like a true geek. LOL

  9. A poem about love of a treo. This person needs a live
