Announcing MobiTV for the Treo 650
The good people at MobiTV have finally released their much anticipated Palm version of MobiTV, which is compatible with the Treo 650. MobiTV first came on the scene in 1999 and originally offered its product on just the cellular market, but with the explosion of the smartphone there were soon great requests for a Palm version to run on the Treo 650.

After a short private beta test that was released to specific individuals the final product has emerged. Their are many channels to choose from on MobiTV such as MSNBC, NBC Mobile, Discovery Channel, ESPN, ABC News, TLC, Fox Sports, CNBC, Vegas Sports, Vegas Scoreline, CMC (California Music Channel), CMC Beat Lounge, CMC USA (Country Music Channel), Comedy Time, Fashion TV, CNET, Discovery Kids, Toon World TV Classics, Discovery En Espanol, CSPAN, CSPAN2, MLB.com, and The Weather Channel. All of these channels can be easily accessed via your 5-way navigation on your Treo 650 which makes channel surfing a breeze.
The current wireless providers are Sprint, Cingular, and Verizon all of which are in the US. Other providers and countries will be added at a later date as well as support for the Treo 600.

I ORDERED THE MOBITV YESTERDAY AND ITS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. FIRST OFF THE PICTURE IS VERY PIXELATED, ALMOST A TOTAL BLUR. ALSO THE SOUND IS NOT THE BEST AND IT CONSTANTLY CUTS OFF TO TUNE ITSELF BACK IN. FOR $10.00/MONTH I WAS EXPECTING SOMETHING LIKE REAL TV…..THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I WILL CANCEL IT BEFORE NEXT MONTHS PAYMENT IS DUE.
I was a longtime MobiTV user on my kid’s phone. We accepted jerky “Slide-show” TV because it was still a “miracle”. Today I signed up for Treo 650 MobiTV. It is completely acceptable for what it is…a phone based television. Compared to what I had before, it is extraordinary, smooth action, sometimes a bit out of sync, some pixelization when in a bad phone area (that makes a big difference…watch it in a 4-bar area and you will be totally happy). My opionion is that the Treo version is worth the money and very well done. Whether or not it keeps your interest longterm is another issue. But technically, given our not to wonderful cell network…it’s great.
Anyone have MobiTV for SprintPCS?
MobiTV provides a pretty decent quality service.
I think people just need to keep their expectations in check. We are all so used to watching TV on a signal that is transmitted through a cable directly to our TV that it’s easy to forget we are watching over a cellular network!
Sometimes the picture can get a little choppy or drag here and there. However, sometimes the picture is extremely crips and clear too. I haven’t had any flaws in the audio what so ever, it seems to be steady at all times thus far. The broadcast you see through MobiTV is about 4 minutes behind what is being broadcast on TV.
I’d like for them to add more channels however. While they have 21 or so available, there are only 4 or 5 that I care to watch.
