Strap your Treo on where?

For bike and motorcycle riders, viewing a Treo on the road can be difficult. Even though a headset (Bluetooth or wired) can be helpful, riders also need to see the screen.
Generally Treo use while driving is not a good idea. But for long distance travelers (who know they must stop their machines to perform even simple functions), this accessory is perfect. You can quickly access speed dialing functions and adjust PocketTunes without a heavy handlebar Treo mount. Kevin Hanrahan, a favorite community member, invented this solution.
According to Hanrahan, the Strap is inspired by a pilot’s knee board, which holds documentation readily accessible on the pilot’s leg. The Treo is inserted into the case top first, allowing the elastic/Velcro flap to cover the sensitive hotsync jack on the bottom, while still allowing the use of a wired headset. There is a plastic circle, which can be easily removed for those older Treo models with long antennas.
Once the Treo is in the case, the case itself is securely strapped to the wearer’s thigh with the opening on top. Although the Treo is upside down while the wearer is standing, the device is perfectly oriented when seated. I would highly recommend unstrapping this case before getting up and walking around, but for prolonged periods of trail blazing with your hands free, this is a fantastic solution. Bikers are not the only ones who can benefit from this case: if you have limited mobility, this could be just what you’ve been waiting for.
The Strap case is not meant to protect your Treo. It is designed to hold it to your leg for maximum accessibility when sitting. That said, the design is simple: a combination of elastic and Velcro stitched heavily to form a pouch. The pouch closes securely with a large Velcro flap. The elastic leg band is wide enough to be comfortable on top of jeans or slacks, and sewn securely into the pouch. This case will not separate from the band, and is highly unlikely to come loose while on the road.
The front of the case is clear plastic, meant to offer visibility as well as basic screen protection. Obviously if it’s raining hard, you won’t stay on the road long. But this case helps ensure your Treo will remain dry while you do. It’s also a good way to ensure your Treo remains dust-free. You have enough control through the plastic cover to tap a speed dial, answer a call, read SMS, and control your PocketTunes play without exposing the device to the elements.
I’m sorry, joggers, but this case is not for you. The strap is made for thighs not biceps. Maybe the next iteration of the Strap will be adjustable for off-the-bike use. In the meanwhile, ride comfortably knowing your Treo is secure and visible.
