Review: Treo 650 & Treo 700w Emergency Power Charger from Seidio

My greatest fear in the world is being buried alive. But I know that as long as I’m buried with my Treo that I’ll be fine. This brings me to my second greatest fear: the battery on my Treo running out. I know I’m not the only person with this not necessarily irrational fear.

More and more we depend on our Treos as a source of information and our connection to the rest of the world. We cannot take a chance on being cut off from our friends, our businesses, our worlds…because of a dead battery.

Enter the emergency charger. I have two, and as you can tell from the photos, there isn’t much difference between them. One came from Seidio via the mytreo.net/store, and the other came from ebay. Once you add in the price of shipping from ebay, they are priced equally. However, the one from ebay took longer to ship and did not come with a money back guarantee. As simple as you can imagine, these emergency chargers are little more than a converter so that you are able to attach your Treo 650 or Treo 700w to a standard 9 volt battery.

There is a simple LED light on the back that indicates the 9 volt is connected and contains enough of a charge to give your Treo. When plugged in, the red charge light on the front of your Treo comes on just like when you charge in your cradle or with your cord. You can use your Treo while it’s charging on the emergency charger, or simply let it charge and remove it. It’s surprisingly effective for such a small device. You’ll be able to charge several times from one 9 volt battery, even if you’ve let your Treo run down.

The Seidio emergency charger comes with a great clip that attaches easily to a belt loop, zipper pull, purse strap, or anywhere you’d want to affix it. While your emergency charger will never be lost this way, you will still need to find a place to keep your 9 volt. Fortunately a 9 volt battery is small enough to exist unnoticed in a backpack, purse, briefcase or suitcase. I keep the emergency charger on my purse strap and the battery in my cosmetics bag. Small, unobtrusive, and inexpensive, it’s a must-have for total piece of mind.
