Review: Proporta Lateral Case for Treo 700

The Proporta Lateral Case is the latest in a line of executive style cases from an excellent manufacturer. This is an elegant case that does a good job of showcasing your Treo 700.
The case is made from a combination of soft leather and aircraft grade aluminum. When holding it by the sides, the aluminum feels solid in your hands. The edges are rounded. White stitching is a matter of taste. But in my view it accents the dark leather very nicely, as does the Proporta logo.
Proporta’s lateral case can be used without a belt clip, in which case the back of the case is totally flat, or you can use the included screw and rotating plastic clip.
In the photo to the right, you can see the line of the case where it integrates the leather and aluminum. The sides are open at the top so that you can access the volume buttons and side key, but the front and back are both completely covered. Your Treo slides into the aluminum body, protected from scratching by felt. There is only a slight gap on the sides towards the bottom, but your Treo will not come out of this case by accident.
When open, you have access to the charging port, and when the magnetic tab is holding the case closed, you still have access to the earphone jack for wired sound. Two slots are provided for expansion cards, and while these slots are almost too tight at first to put a card in, the leather relaxes in time.
The aluminum plate inside the leather front flap helps protect the device. Unlike some other flip style cases that I’ve tried, this folds all the way behind your Treo so that when you’re holding it to your ear you’re not slapped in the head. I believe it’s a suberb design.

I’ve been using this case a few months now and love it. My 700p feels very protected by it. I can also slip it in my shirt pocket easily, as the aluminum casing adds very little extra bulk to the device.
